Which product category prescribed by GP’s in England during 2012 cost the NHS the most?

Is this also true for prescribing in terms of actual items (as opposed to cost)?

It’s interesting to see that the pareto principle roughly holds true for both measures, with 24% of drug or product categories prescribed accounting for 80% of total cost – and just the top 8% of prescribed categories accounting for 50% of total cost. Considering the top 2 categories are for conditions that are on the rise, what does this bode for the NHS & the newly formed CCG’s?
